Attendance looks simple until the exceptions arrive: the holiday declared after the roster was planned, the leave approved retroactively, the person who worked through a company holiday. Kellith's attendance module resolves all of it with one derivation that always adds up.
The rules it enforces
Not aspirations — guarantees. Each of these is a documented behaviour of the module, covered by a test.
- A holiday outranks leave — and attendance outranks a holiday.
- Nobody spends leave on a day the organisation was closed. But someone who worked, worked: a logged day beats the calendar.
- Day status is derived at read time, never stored.
- A late attendance correction or a retroactive leave approval self-corrects the record. There is no backfill job because none is needed.
- An approved leave explains an absence.
- A day already marked absent reads as on-leave the moment leave approves it — and returns to absent if that leave is later cancelled.
- Working remotely counts as present.
- And a future date with no record is “not marked”, never “absent”. The record states facts, not accusations.
- One holiday per date, and every holiday has a name.
- The calendar stays a list a person can read, not a set of flags.
- Every record names who logged it and when.
- Recording a day and declaring a holiday both land on the audit trail naming the actor; a refused duplicate records nothing.
