Leave is where HR software earns or loses trust, because it is where the company's promises meet arithmetic. Kellith treats a leave balance the way a bank treats an account: nothing is debited without a decision, and every change has a ledger entry someone can read.
The rules it enforces
Not aspirations — guarantees. Each of these is a documented behaviour of the module, covered by a test.
- Nobody approves their own leave.
- Even a requester who holds the approve permission is shown their own request as not-actionable. There is no path around it.
- Balance is spent at approval, not at filing.
- An undecided request reserves nothing, and an approval that would overdraw the balance is refused — so the balance shown is always the balance that is true.
- Cancelling an approved request refunds exactly what the approval debited.
- Not a recalculation — a refund. The quota snapshot taken at approval survives later edits to the leave type.
- Decisions are immutable.
- No un-cancel, no re-decision. The remedy is always a new request, and cancel-and-resubmit is traceable in both directions.
- Rejections always carry a reason.
- So does cancelling someone else's request. Nobody learns their plans changed without learning why.
- Manual adjustments are categorised and ledgered.
- Every correction records before and after values, and that ledger is readable — a person may always see why their entitlement changed.
